All of this resonates with me. Art was how I got through COVID, and it seems the most artless aspects of our world correlate with the most harsh and inhumane.
Absolutely. I believe art gives a voice to the voiceless or those who are not yet ready to feel or understand their pain. In this way, art can be a vehicle for healing even when we are unable to grasp the vastness, depth or full impact of trauma on our lives. Art uncovers the veil, so to speak, as we create. In my experience this process has been both empowering and liberating.
I know it's a bit of a worn notion, but there is a way to achieve some peace and wholeness by turning your pain into something beautiful and/or powerful. Some pains may require many and varied artistic expressions to work through, but so far, that process has served me well.
