The Bubble, 2018
This week, I’ve been sitting with a beautiful teaching from Jack Kornfield’s meditation, The Bodhisattva and the Power of Intention.
It invites us to orient ourselves not by short-term goals or fleeting desires, but by something deeper—a long-term, heart-centered intention.
Kornfield speaks of aligning with the “North Star” of our heart: a guiding light that points us toward compassion, purpose, and the vast unfolding of life. This intention is not about control, but about presence—about tending to life like a gardener plants seeds, trusting that even if we don’t see the fruit immediately, or even in our lifetime, it will come in time.
This perspective offers a kind of liberation. We are reminded to act with care, but without attachment to outcomes. To hold the long view. To trust the process. To let compassion for ourselves and others be the overarching direction of our life.
As I reflect this week, I keep coming back to this question:
What is the compass of my heart pointing toward?
What are your intentions? I hope you will share them with us in the comments.
