The past few weeks I’ve been embracing the warmth of the wood stove, resting more and savoring quiet walks in the snowy woods. I’ve also been thinking about what I can offer to my paid subscribers here on Substack. Words can’t quite describe how grateful I am to each of you. Part of my personal journey has been untangling deep feelings of unworthiness, allowing my voice to be heard and believing that what I have to offer the world is enough, just by being me.
I’m sending all of you the biggest hug and THANK YOU! For pushing me on in this space and empowering me to keep going, despite fears and self doubt.

Slowing down with watercolor painting happens in spurts for me. I always get called back to the expressive, unexpected found with watercolor…northern Maine offers so much inspiration!
Creation and connection is at the heart of what I do. However, it can be difficult in the winter months, when all we may want is to stay cozy and warm inside. In addition to this, I wanted to make this offering accessible to all my supporters, near and far.
Here’s what I am planning: Monthly four week seasonal art making where we will dive into different mediums. Using both observation, imagination and nature for inspiration, we will mindfully connect and create at our own pace.
Here’s what you can look forward to:
✨ Frequency: Weekly written and video tutorials to guide you step-by-step through a seasonal project.
✨Format: A mix of written instructions, photos, and short videos (5–10 minutes) highlighting key steps.
✨Community: Share your progress and creations with other paid subscribers.
Each season brings fresh inspiration! Those of you who have worked with me know that I like to keep creative space wide open, let intuition guide my ideas and allow room for the unexpected and wonderful to happen. In a nutshell, I don’t like to over plan. Also, I want to hear from you! What do you want to explore or learn? Send me your ideas!
Here is a brief outline of the timeline and projects at a glance (with room for modifications):
❄️Winter (January–February): Watercolors-Landscapes, skies, history and architecture, frosty botanicals, trees, animals and more.
🌱Spring (March–May): Batik blossom scrolls and foraged art with petals, leaves, and natural textures.
🌼Summer (June–August): Gelli printed books using various techniques and painting summer’s vivid palettes.
🍁Autumn (September–November): Harvest-inspired gratitude journals, collage and more.
These projects are designed to help you slow down, nurture creativity, and make art that reflects the seasons of your life.
The first series will be ❄️Through the Frosted Pane: Winter Scenes in Watercolor.
Over four weeks, we’ll dive into the quiet beauty of the season, exploring landscapes, snow-covered branches, animals, architecture, frozen ponds and more. Every lesson is designed to evoke the season’s quiet beauty -all through the expressive medium of watercolor.

Charlene, do you offer your artwork for sale? I wasn't sure if you had someplace people could purchase some of the work.
