Route 11 just above Owlsboro Road, Mount Chase, Maine.
On my walk.
Seeking Light.
The long shadows of 3:30 approach. The sun, whole and shining, illuminating the tops of trees, warming, if only for a few moments, everything it touches.
Candles light the house, strings adorn my studio, and I wake up in darkness to sit and stare, mesmerized by the fire and quiet.
Winter is coming and it’s not easy here. But there seems to be great love and lessons found in what is difficult and there is so much to be learned through the passing of the seasons.
I have been settling into my studio. We will wait to dig for electricity until the ground warms. Until then, I am grateful for space heaters.
I received a gift from a friend the other day -Vintage cookbooks from Chester County, Pennsylvania. These books were put together by women’s groups through schools, churches and other organizations. Sharing their recipes with each other and their communities.
Precious connection, time and treasure becoming sturdy book page with collage and paint, some ink.
There are quiet moments of reflection and unseen healing happening through making. Something happening just under the surface through art creation. I am finding that my intuitive draw to a material or medium is not always intentional, but instead, instinctual.
Later, often a long time later, I might see the work in a new way. Holding a thread to the next layer of myself and uncovering it slowly through creative processes.
One of the types of solstice luminaries we will be making at the Orchard this month. For a full list of workshops and events please visit my website.
